Starting to have teeth problems again, what can I do...?

I have really bad teeth and have had for years. Last year I had to have 3 teeth pulled on the same side (frankly I think it was the dentists fault). I had an abscess on an upper wisdom tooth and had that pulled but nothing was done about the abscess. A month later, I lost the next in line (again with an infection), then a month later I lost the third tooth so I only have two back teeth on the upper left side. Each time, he said he didn't know where the infection was coming from but did nothing about the infection. Well, it has been a year and except for some twinges now and then everything has been fine. But last week my cheek started puffing and getting white stripes in it just like before. I don't have a tooth ache but my lower jaw feels like it is asleep (only on the left side) and my upper gum where he pulled the teeth is starting to ache. What on earth can be wrong with my mouth? I don't have dental insurance and will not use the same dentist as before. help...

Starting to have teeth problems again, what can I do...?
Have you been seeing another dentist every six months?

I suggest you find a new dentist, get a full set of x-rays, get a full exam, and perhaps some of these infections can be avoided.

Decay eats away at a tooth...when it reaches the nerve, root or gums, then infections set it...causing tremendous pain. Seeing the dentist regularly can help avoid the decay from getting out of hand.

Please get EVERYTHING checked out. Emergency visits usually only cover the area that's bothering you...this doesn't include a thorough exam.
Reply:I think you should be very concerned. All these infections are not healthy for you. I suggest you find another dentist that will either take payments or work with you. You need to have some full xrays and a good repupatable dentist.

Teeth hurt down when i bite on any kind of food? please help!?

okay, i have no loose teeth. i just went to the dentist a couple months ago (my mom said cavities take a long time to form, so i dont think i have a cavity) but when i bite down (on any food) my teeth hurt. it is on both sides of my teeth (the bottom teeth) and it feels like it is only on one tooth on each side. it goes away for a few weeks then comes back. i have been using sensitivity toothpaste, but i still have pain when i eat food. it is any kind of food: hot and cold, solid (like meat or chips and stuff like that) and liquid-ish kind of food lol, like mashed potatoes. what do you think this is? thanks so much for answering!

please help me with this!

it hurts to eat, and i do have to eat lol.

OK, we will first say that you don't use drugs on a recreational basis,,,is that right? Doing so can ruin teeth over time and what you describe is one of the often heard symptoms...However, moving along, if your gritting and grinding your teeth, especially at night when sleeping that could cause the reactions your experiencing, we call that issue "Stress" and it has an emotional basis. I also am assuming your of school age so that would make me believe that any Stress you might be having could be school grades or as we used to call it, "Puppy Love" only in your case I would have to believe it's on a more serious level than that. At any rate, if you have school or personal issues that are hard to deal with you need to talk to a trusted adult and resolve what ever it is that is bothering you. Gritting and grinding can ruin your teeth, your jaw joint and alter your personality. Your way to young to have to deal with such issues...I wish you well.
Reply:you have sesitive teeth, they make special kinds of mouthwash and toothpaste for that.
Reply:Well maybe u could go to the detest again.............. It could be that u have a gum infection or something................ It might be that one of ur teeth cavity or a infected tooth. I hope u feel better soon..............

Teeth Help?!?

Okay so when I was younger I had a cavity in a tooth in the back. My tooth started falling out piece by piece. After it was all out (or so I thought) that tooth and the one behind it started coming in rotated. Which, is not my concern. Now, there is what seems to be like dried up blood or still a piece of the baby tooth or something back there. It's not in the way of the permanent teeth, just there on the side. What could this be? Please someone help!

Teeth Help?!?
it could very well be just a piece of the baby took left over, i had the same issue when i was younger. you should try to work it out yourself, but if you can't get it out or it hurts too much, i'd say to go have the dentist check it out... but i do think it's more than likely just baby tooth left over.

Teeth help!?

Well here's the thing.

I don't like a couple of my top front teeth, and I would really like to make them even or aligned. Here's a picture:

http://s257.photobucket.com/albums/hh209...

I can't really explain it, but the bottoms of my two front teeth look like the top of a cloud. Did anybody understand that?

Well anyway, I would really want to make them nice.. because right now I hate my smile. I also learned from another question that I could fix my teeth with something called "Tooth Recontouring and Reshaping" and I would like to know MAYBE the cost, but definitely how old I have to be to get this done (because I don't think I am). Or even if I should wait a while to see if it fixes itself.

Could somebody offer some suggestions? Thanks.

Teeth help!?
Becca, can I just say first off, you have great teeth and I would think carefully before deciding on what you want to have done, after 10 years as a Dental Nurse I have seen a lot worse.

To answer your question, are you talking about the incisal edge (where you bite) on you're two front teeth?

If so there are a couple of different methods you can use. Re-contouring or reshaping would probably be the least expensive method, this usually involves filing or grinding the surface enamel down by a fraction of a millimeter to achieve the desired look, as for the price, it usually varies from one dentist to another so it can be almost impossible to give an accurate quote.

For more serious misalignment (but I am pretty sure you are talking insisal edge) you would be looking at porcelain veneers or crowns, more expensive initially but in the long term (I am talking 10 or 15 years) a better investment.

As for age, if you are under 18 most dentists should ask for parental consent before the proceedure, over 18 the choice is yours. I cannot stress to you how important it is to be sure this is something you really want to do, even if it means waiting until you are 18 before doing it, once you start grinding or cutting a tooth there is no going back. Tooth enamel does not re-grow once it is removed and if you don't like the result you may end up having to pay for more expensive restoration work later on.

Another really important thing is to get a consultation first the dentist should be able to give you a price then and it also gives you a chance to meet him or her and see if you are comfortable have them work on your teeth
Reply:you are so shallow, obviously you sound like a 12 year old girl crying about how you will never have boobs! seriously, why dont you just stick with what your genes gave you and live on......if you're teeth looked like crippled butter then I would understand but your teeth dont look like that...NEXT QUESTION!

Teeth hurting?

My orthodonist had to sand down my teeth because they are very sharp and pointy so they would avoid hitting the bracket and the bracket falling off. When he did this sanding he would hit certain spots on my teeth that would send chills down my whole body. I imagine that's what getting a hole in your teeth feels like. (I've never had a cavity) Whenever I eat and I hit those certain spots I get that same chill down my back. I would say that my teeth take a long time to grow and are small for my age (14). I don't know anything about teeth but do you think he hit my enamel or something what causes these chills/pains??

Teeth hurting?
Your teeth are hooked onto nerve endings in your gums. They are very sensitive and if your dentist filed so much that caused a hole, then that would definitely make your teeth hurt, and even cause headaches. To me, I don't think your dentist should have done that. Your adult teeth are already in and there is no correcting his mistake unless you get a filling or something to cover that hole. I would go to a different dentist and get a second opinion about the work your current dentist did, and if I were you this could be cause for malpractice law suit. From what you said, he ruined your teeth.

How can i fix my teeth? is my dentist lying to me?

my dentist tells me that i have small teeth which has created a gap between my two front teeth, the gap has caused the teeth next to it to turn and plus one of the front teeth has been pushed back on an angle. he says the only way to fix it is by turning the teeth next to it and pushing all my other teeth forward. however since my canine teeth are in the right place it would cause problems apparently and he would have to shave them down. making my teeth look even smaller. he also wants to x-ray my head because he thinks my jaw will grow. he says i would have to wear the braces for six to eight months. is this a good estimate? my friend thinks my dentist is making it more complicated than it is and is only trying to get money out of me. is this true? are there any other methods possible to fix my teeth problem?

How can i fix my teeth? is my dentist lying to me?
First of all, dentists have caused so many health problems in this country that it is just incredible. Any time you do work on a tooth, you cause it to have trauma. The trauma is cummulative and after about 3 or 4 traumas, the tooth can die. The easiest way to solve the gap problem is to get some bonding done. This is easy and does not require a lot of trauma to the teeth. When you use braces, this is not a permanent fix. The teeth have grown that way for a reason. When you straighten them, it works for several years, but the teeth will still tend to go back to their original placement over time.

x-raying your head? For what? Any radiation is cummulative also. Is he proposing to use the new digital x-ray or the conventional x-ray that is 10 times more exposure.

Ask your dentist if he believes amalgam fillings are O.K. to put in people's mouths and does he do that procedure? Then ask him if he knows how to read an x-ray to determine if NICO exists in the mouth or does he have to physically examine the mouth to determine that?

If the answer to the first question is Yes and the answer to the second question is he can't see NICO in an x-ray, like most dentists can't, you need a new dentist.

The only dentist I let touch my mouth now is a "biological dentist" that uses the right materials and procedures to protect my body of all the damage typical dentists are causing people. Many diseases and serious problems are caused from infections that lie under ALL amalgam fillings and cavitations under root canals done using the standard latex type filling materials used in root canals.

Be VERY cautious about who you let work on your teeth in America. The ADA does not look out for you and are controlling dentists in very negative ways.

good luck
Reply:Get a second opinion
Reply:Try going to a different dentist and see what he says.
Reply:cant you just get braises?
Reply:same problem dude...i got the exact same thing...except my jaw won't grow anymore...and i have to get it stretched...but other wise i have to get braces for 2-3 years...u should go to a diff. dentist and see what he says and if he seems more accurate and correct and reasonable....then maybe its time for a new dentist...
Reply:seems like you can just get veneers. go to a dentist that does restorative work. and they usually have free consultation. good luck!
Reply:Um I'm sorry to say but I really don't think your doctor is the sharpest knife in the drawer. How about going to a new dentist? Get braces? Retainer? Ask a family member?

Remember, looks don't matter. Not everyone had perfect teether=) Stay positive and point out the good things when you look in the mirror!

love, maddiegirl x=)
Reply:It depends how old you are if you're going to grow any more. I would suggest going to another dentist and getting another opinion. Maybe even go to two more. Good luck.
Reply:Nope, your dentist is right you will need braces (in order to make your teeth straight), and I think that is a good time estimate. Also, if you don't believe him you should get a second opinion, from an orthodontist perhaps?!
Reply:I'm 42 years old and I honestly can't understand what the deal is with braces today! As long as you are not totally deformed with your teeth and can talk and eat, leave them as they are. Every one of my kids have been told they need braces. Honestly they are fine! 2 of them have really straight teeth, one has a "small" gap between his front and the other has 1 crooked tooth! Big deal. They eat and talk fine and look good too.

When I was younger, I even remember watching movies with the movie stars even having a crooked tooth or two. Jodie Foster being one of them. It just simply wasn't done as a general rule then like it is now.

And to pay 1500 dollars for one root canal! Get real! "IF" I would pay that kind of money for one tooth, I want a written guarantee that that tooth will be in my head when I die! They won't do it. So yeah, dentists are all about getting all the money they can these days. It's up to you. Think about it.

I have been a licensed dentist for 7 years now so this is an opinion of such a person that preforms these procedures daily.

Crown- basically shaving down the portion of the tooth to give room so that a fake (crown) can have room to function as if the tooth was brand new.

Bridge- if you have teeth 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 and you lost teeth 3 and 4 you would make a bridge that covers2, 3, 4, and 5 by constructing 4 crowns that are connected to each other when they are made.

Implant- this definition is not exactly the correct way to explain implants, but as long as I am explaining to a non dentist- it is like taking a screw directly into the bone and using the portion of the screw that sticks out of the gums to place a crown on just as if it were a natural tooth root.

Down side of a bridge is that the two adjacent teeth to the space where there are teeth missing, have to be used to grind down to a nub and sometimes these teeth have nothing wrong to start with.

Down side for an implant is that they are expensive, not covered by insurance, and the success rate varies from type of implant placed to habits of the patient receiving the implant.

All should function as a normal tooth, just different cleaning requirements.

Last but not least, you cant bridge a natural tooth to an implant.

Thanks

Brian
Reply:i had 4 crowns put on and it was the best money i spend in a long time no more sore gums , no bleeding and it was tax deductible
Reply:While in the US Army I had two implants one crown and a bridge put in..they are a time consuming effort..not to mentio some pain...but they look like my own teeth..it definitely means keeeping up with daily oral hygiene to prvent serious gum disease later or even loosing the teeth in and around the inplants..crowns..bridges..I floss regularly and I've never had a serious problem..got to keep up with your six month check ups too.
Reply:Since they have to open the gum to do an implant I suppose you could get an infection before it heals, but if the dentist thinks this is a risk he will prescribe an antibiotic. I considered an implant, but it would cost twice as much as so I went with the bridge. I don't think it can damage any other teeth but the two adjacent teeth have to be crowned to secure the bridge tooth. One of mine had to have a root canal and crown anyway, but the other was a perfectly good tooth, so I guess you could say it was damaged. The crowns and bridge don't feel natural, but they don't hurt anymore.

Teeth Whitening with Rev Kit - Do i Brush Teeth afterward?

Im using the Perfect Rev! 15-min kit for teeth whitening provided to me by my dentist. Im following the instructions - brush my teeth like normal (Colgate total or the provided Arm %26amp; Hammer Baking Soda Hydr-Peroxide toothpaste) + floss, use the tray and 14% hy-perox solution for 15 min, rinse with special mouthwash. It then goes on to say simply "brush gently" implying i should once again brush my teeth after the mouthwash. After which i should not drink or eat for 30 mins.

My question is do i "gently brush" with water r do i use my regular Colgate Total or the provided Arm %26amp; Hammer Baking Soda Hydr-Peroxide toothpaste. I dont want to neutralize any existing reaction going on on my teeth (you know, 30 mins no drink/eat statement).

Thanks.

My daughter's milk teeth ?

My daughter is 5 yrs and 5 months old . I know she has all her milk teeth out but 2 days ago she had this slight fever that comes and go which I thought was caused by the weather ( we're changing from hot to cold weather ) and then she complained but not cried about her tooth hurting . It didn't seem like a real toothache coz she didn't really mind it . Then last night she fell asleep without brushing her teeth so I carried her and was going to brush her teeth when I saw teeth coming out one on both sides on her lower jaws . Is that permanent teeth ? Her milk teeth are all out so I figured that must be it . It's Friday night when I saw it so I still have to wait Monday to check with dental . She was really happy about it too ! Both teeth are half-way out and half is still under the gums which she saw .

My daughter's milk teeth ?
Are they front teeth? If they are, then she's getting her permanent teeth. Children have 20 deciduous (Or "Baby" teeth, or as you called them "milk teeth") So if she's got all 20, then the new teeth are permanent teeth coming through.

Teeth Grinders? Mouth Guard at Night? Zoom Whitening? Invisalign?

Dentist told me I should sleep with a mouth guard at night to prevent grinding my teeth. ever since he told me this i've been freaking out over it and fear i have actually began to grind my teeth at night.

I have a mouh guard, the ones people use during boxing. is this okay? its rather bulky though. but still?

do you use anything...else?

i'm stressing out. i stress out over my teeth!

my college is performing ZOOM Teeth Whitening for $150, by professional dentists.

I really want to get Invisalign but it's expensive! But i really think it will help me a lot, to rid minor spacing and help with the teeth grinding problem.

help! any words would be great!

Teeth Grinders? Mouth Guard at Night? Zoom Whitening? Invisalign?
I paid close to 700 dollars for the Zoom whitening treatment. How are you getting it for 150? Go for it. Also, go to CVS and ask about non-bulky, more streamlined teeth grinding deterrants. Or ask you dentist what to do, braces may help it, i dunno.
Reply:I paid $488 for the ZOOM treatment - $150 is cheap for that - go for it.

I just had my wisdom teeth out, how do I brush my teeth?????

I had a very pleasent expeience getting my wisdom teeth removed its the 5th day (had it done Fri morn and now its tues) and I've have had no pain only nausea due to the pain meds but how can I brush my teeth back there?? I am afraid to get too close to the site. My teeth are so gross in the back right now that my top teeth are sticking together to my bottom teeth. All my front teeth are kept clean easily but I HATE dirty teeth and the gritty feeling eewww... . Is it safe to brush ALL my teeth now? When will it be? When can I eat and brush like normal?? What else besides brushing can I do? Thank you so much!

I just had my wisdom teeth out, how do I brush my teeth?????
Try brushing very slowly. Not even brushing but more like wiping the tooth with your brush. Try gargling with mouth wash.

I completely understand how you feel about NOT brushing. Just don't sacrafice the healing site for clean teeth.
Reply:i'm in the dental field and used to wk for an oral surgeon. just brush the AROUND the area gingerly.

dont chew on the side where you had your wisdom teeth extracted

DO NOT spit or suck on a straw. it'll cause a suction and will suck out blood from the extraction site that you need to heal. you don't want a dry socket. it's REALLY paiful

no strenuos activity cuz it'll cause that area to throb

take ibuprofen, it'll help with the inflamation

soft food diet. no chips, tacos, nothing seedy, etc. u dont want anything logged into the extration site

hope this helps

Questions about braces and wisdom teeth, please help!?

i just had braces put on last week and my orthodontist said i would need to have my wisdom teeth on my lower jaw extracted when they come through the gum cos they're growing sideways. my question is, is it really necessary? i'm also afraid that they will be embedded in the gum. how would i know if and when they come through the gum? would i feel pain? even if i don't feel any pain, would i still need to have them extracted? another question is, am i making a mistake of wearing braces now as my wisdom teeth are not fully grown yet? i'm afraid the wisdom teeth will affect the straightening process.... the wisdom teeth on my upper jaw have come through the gum but not fully developed. i could feel one of them not being aligned with the rest of the teeth. no bracket has been placed on that tooth. will that tooth be aligned with the rest of my teeth? and if so, what would be done? i wonder if i would have 2 wear braces much longer just because i have 2 wait 4 my wisdom teeth to fully grow??

Questions about braces and wisdom teeth, please help!?
Yes, it's necessary. Your wisdom teeth may grow in straight, but the roots are not. They will mess up your teeth after your braces come off and you'll have to do it all over again. As long as you never eat anything they tell you not to, and your braces don't mess up, you'll be fine. I have all 4 of my wisdom teeth and I've had my braces for 6 months now. My orthodontist told me that afterwards they will pull my wisdom teeth, and as long as I wear my retainer like I'm supposed to, then my teeth will be fine. You won't have to wear your braces longer because of wisdom teeth. Many people don't get theirs til later in life, but some get them earlier.
Reply:the wisdom teeth will need to come out for two reasons:

1 they will push your straightened teeth out of alignment if not removed.

2 they will cause discomfort to you because they are what is called "impacted" (not growing in straight and correct)

You will know when those teeth come in because you will experience soreness and tenderness in your gums in that area. If they are growing sideways, you will also feel them scraping your cheeks possibly. Since you are on a long term dental care plan (orthodontic care will last at least 4 years after removal of braces) your orthodontist will monitor the growth of your wisdom teeth and have them removed at the proper time. This will also ensure that what work has been done to straighten your teeth will not be ruined by these teeth coming in.

Be proud, take care of your teeth and hang in there, it's all worht it for the beautiful smile you will have in no time!!!

My son has really bad teeth?

I've got 5 kids, aged 3-11, and my 11 year old son has really bad teeth. Every time he goes to the dentist he needs to get at least one filling, he had fillings in practicaly all of his baby teeth. How can I make sure his adult teeth don't end up the same? I didn't mind him getting fillings in his baby teeth cos I knew they would fall out, but I don't want him to end up with fillings in all his adult teeth.

All the kids has got fillings already, even the little one, so I guess none of them has got really GOOD teeth, but my 11 year old is the worst. They do eat sweets and stuff, but I make sure they brush their teeth before they go to bed. Is there any special toothpaste or anything I can use to stop them getting such rotten teeth?

My teeth are pretty bad too, I've got lots of fillings in them and I've had lots of root canals, is it something that I coul.d have passed on to the kids??

My son has really bad teeth?
The kids need to be brushing at least twice a day, possibly more if they are prone to cavities. Try to get your older kids into the habit of flossing as well, as this can prevent cavities forming between the teeth. Try and restrict how many sweets they eat, and try to make sure they don't snack on them all day - if they're going to have sweets, give them after a meal time and get them to brush their teeth afterwards. Try not to let them drink fizzy juice except occasionally as a special treat, give them wateror milk instead, or some sugar free squash. I don't think bad teeth is something you can pass on to your children except in rare cases when there is a problem with enamel formation on the teeth. It's probably more likely that your own dental hygeine maybe isn't as good as it should be, and you've passed on that trait to your kids? And perhaps you eat a lot of sweets or drink soda yourself, and so the kids do as well? Try and look after your kids teeth - getting fillings isn't fun, especially when they're really young. I didn't get my first filling until I was quite old, and even then I cried all the way through it. And your kids will have more confidence if they have good teeth too. Good luck.
Reply:if they eat a lot of sweets they need to clean there teeth after they finshed the sweet. wating 6 hours befor bed to clean them is 6 hours of rot.
Reply:as a kid, i was only allowed a small allowed of sugary stuff at weekends and i have never had any fillings
Reply:What a situation! You must be pretty upset about this one. The thing that comes into my mind is keeping their teeth clean between meals and right after they pig out on candy, %26amp;c. Kids are hard to train, but if you can somehow teach them excellent dental and oral hygiene right now (this is your golden opportunity) you will have given them a gift that will last for the rest of their lives. Also, if you can find them a dentist who won't scare the wits out of them all, you can make some kind of good first step to see that your children have a good chance of fine teeth as adults. My teeth are upside down and backwards. I have had trouble with them all my life. My dentist calms me down and makes repairs that last a long time. I'm 63. Finding a great dentist is probably the second most important thing. The first step will be to retrain all of your wonderful children to brush after candy and brush after meals and brush before going nite-nite. If this problem were tossed into my lap, this is how I would handle it. I send this to you with a big hug and a prayer you find the best possible course to follow so your children will not have to follow in Mommy's footsteps when it comes to their teeth. Have a great summer! From G. in South Portland, Maine.

Reply:It sounds like your son has inherited your teeth. My suggestion is to brush and floss his teeth at least 3 to 4 times a day , drink more water and only give he sweets once a day.
Reply:Ok, do you all share utensils or anything like that? I read that most common way children develop Lactobacillus (which eats away at the teeth forming cavities) is from being passed from teh mother to the child. Because all children are born with clean mouths. If you all share stuff, stop it. Try adn get them to stop licking fingers and whatnot. Floss everynight before brushing, and I'd say, brush with baking soda. Or buy some organic toothpaste w/ baking soda in it...they work and clean 3x better than any store bought toothpaste filled with all the unneccesary stuff. And brush every morning after breakfast, and at night before bed. And well, I'd say try and get everyone to cut back on teh sugar stuff. Go for carrot and celery sticks and raw fruits.
Reply:genetics can be an issue rarely. most of the time it is their diet. like sugary drinks ect and if they are eating sweets -don't forget about mints and gums also.. it would be best to brush or rinse immediately afterwards not hours later and another thing to consider is how often they are eating. for instance drinking a coke straight down is not all that harmful especially if you have brushed or rinsed afterwards but if you or the kids are drinking and/or eating sugar and/or acidic foods/drinks often -or over the day sipping and snacking- the more often you expose the teeth is a big factor in developing tooth decay.

in addition, are you on city water with added flouride? and are ya'll using a good flouride toothpaste? ask your dentist if you do not know and see if he thinks home flouride rinses would be helpful.

it is really great that you are concerned about this. alot of parents do not realize how important their kids teeth are for the whole of their lives.
Reply:One thing that I've noticed is that you said you have lots of root canals. I think I know what's causing this. You also said you make your kids brush their teeth before they go to bed.

Do you swallow toothpaste? Do you brush your teeth several times a day? I noticed that it was right during the time, that I used to swallow toothpaste, that I started getting lots of cavities and had a root canal. ( I had a root canal done, when I was around 8 years old. ) I used to brush at least twice a day, which meant I swallowed a lot more than I would have if I had brushed once a day.

I continued swallowing toothpastes until I was much older, but when I was 10, I moved to a country where they did not have flouridated toothpaste, and after that I have not had even a single cavity or any teeth problems.

So , my advice would be to switch to a non-flouridated toothpaste. And try to watch out and see if your kids are swallowing it. It is not good to swallow toothpaste, even in small amounts. ( even if it is non-flouridated )
Reply:My 5 year old needs fillings too. Both of my kids have been all but cut off from candy and sugary snacks. I get them things like sugar free jell-o, pudding, and not too many things a lot of acids. They drink a lot of milk. And if they prefer chocolate, get ovaltine. My kids can't tell the difference. But they love it. Also, get them to rince with a fluoride, but only the older kids (5+). The younger ones, just keep their teeth as clean as possible. Brush at least 2x a day. Some people just have bad genes. I've been getting fillings since I was 5. And yes, I have always taken great care of mu teeth. Mostly from the fact that I'm so self-conscious about bad breath...I hate it! So, my bad teeth can be contributed to my English heritage. It's just in my genes to have bad teeth, and my daughter is following suite. So, just do everything you can and try not to worry about too many fillings. You worry when you can't get the fillings anymore. Also, when I was little, my mother didn't want me to have a mouth full of silver fillings, so she opted to pay the extra to get white ones. You can't even tell I have as many fillings as I do. Now, they're not only white, they match them to the existing color of your tooth.

Reply:BRUSH UR TEETH!!!!!

there not gunno stay white if u dont brush em!!!!!
Reply:Well you need to brush them............ otherwise your other teeth will fall out. The two fake teeth will not whiten with teeth whitener, you will have to go to your dentist and have them taken out and make new white ones.......then you'll need to worry about your other teeth, because you don't want to have two white front teeth and then the rest yellow.....hope it helps
Reply:No problem, if you just not brush your teeth they will all fall out and then your new ones will all match. In the mean time keep your mouth closed and no one will notice. You probably have bad breath anyway.

Does everyone get their teeth taken out for braces?

im getting my teeth taken out in a week cuz im gettin braces.why do they take ur teeth out?my brother has teeth that stick out and he said hes not getting his teeth taken out!does every condition need their teeth taken out?after i take my braces out will my other teeth go into the place where i had my teeth taken out?im really curious and i really dont want to take them out..i guess i just want to if i want to have perfect teeth!

Does everyone get their teeth taken out for braces?
No not everyone who gets braces gets teeth removed. I got braces at 25 and no teeth removed. My son got braces at 12 and at 13 had to have 4 permanent teeth removed. My daughter got braces at 12 and had only one baby tooth removed. My youngest is 10, probably will get braces and probably won't need any teeth removed. It's important if they are baby or permanent. There's nothing wrong with removing baby teeth for braces. You need to carefully (or you and your parents) consider removing permanent teeth - it can change the shape of your face; what happens if you loose other teeth later on; etc. We asked why my son couldn't get a palette expander instead of removing the teeth, but the expander can only make the roof or top jaw bigger - you can never expand the bottom jaw and he had no room. Ask questions and go for a second opinion. Good luck!
Reply:Yeah I had to have quite a few out. It wasn't fun, but my teeth look fine now.
Reply:i did years ago.. 2 of them , 1 on each side.

think about it.. braces push back teeth.. so need somewhere to push against..

alas my dentist was a cow bag, i broke my brace and couldn't get a new one...
Reply:it varies for everyone with braces. some only have overbite and nice straight teeth. but in the end dont worry becuz it will all look nice =]
Reply:haha, the same thing happened to me! my brother was lucky and didnt have to get his teeth pulled out, while i did. I think its because me brothers teeth are spaced in his mouth better. I think they have to take the teeth out because you need to make room for the front teeth to be evenly spaced out....so haha i guess the dentists know what they're doing...i had two teeth pulled out, believe me, its not TOO bad....plus, the perfect smile is rewarding afterwards!
Reply:Sometimes an orthodontist will shave off parts of teeth to make them narrower or even remove a tooth to make room for your new smile. It may just be that your mouth is "too crowded." Talk to him about what he is going to do and why so you have a better understanding and feel more comfortable about it.
Reply:Not everyone needs to have teeth extracted, it depends on the severity of the tooth placement, your mouth size and sometimes even the orthodontist. Everyone's case is different. Maybe your ortho foresees that having some teeth taken out will give further room for others when they become better aligned. Also, the human mouth does not actually use all of its teeth, which is why the wisdom teeth are extracted in some people. If you ever feel uneasy about a medical procedure, though, ask for a second opinion and talk to your parents (if you are underage). Good luck!!
Reply:I got four removed for my braces. It's because their your baby teeth and there would be no reason to go through the pain and time to straighten them out when their just going to fall out anyways. Everyones teeth grow out at different times, but the chances are that they'll leave the braces on until those teeth grow fully, then they will get braces too...and when everything is straight, you get your braces removed! :]
Reply:Oh deary, it's not because your teeth are CROOKED that they are taking them out. It's because they are ROTTEN! It's the stench of decaying teeth that's making an extraction necessary.

I recommend forgoing braces all together, since you're not going to brush your teeth anyway.

Bright side? Dentures don't rot
Reply:When I was younger a good friend of mine had braces. She also went through the ordeal of tooth extraction.

This is nothing to worry about. Your brother probably didn't have any removed because the root system was still able to be adjusted or his teeth where remotely in the correct position.

Don't worry you will have teeth in the end. Hers where actually attached to a retainer while her teeth where still shifting. Afterwards she received implants.

Discuss this with your orthodontist ask the Dr. all the questions that concern you. They are there to make your smile beautiful...and in the end its worth being a brace face because for the rest of your life your smile will be amazing.
Reply:I didnt get my teeth taken out when I got braces. My dentist told me that i would have to take out 4 of my teeth but I didnt want to so I went to another dentist to get another opinion. I had to wear separaters and this thing on the roof of my mouth for about 6months and that made enough space. So I wore that instead of taking out my teeth.

My friends had their teeth taken out and it looks perfectly fine. After a couple of months, your teeth go into those spaces and it looks nice. I think you should ask your dentist if there is any way around taking teeth out, but if there isnt, go for it because it'll all be worth it in the end.
Reply:Not everyone. If space is needed to relief crowding of teeth, then yes.
Reply:HI,

EXTRACTIONS ARE NOT ALWAYS NEEDED. IF YOUR TEETH NEED TO BE REMOVED FOR ORTHODONTIC REASONS, EVERYTHING WILL BE JUST FINE WHEN THE CASE IS FINISHED.

Tooth pulled out, would other teeth spread out?

I just had my permanent tooth number 5 pulled out today. It is the first tooth to be pulled out. And later I will have my wisdom teeth pulled out too (in more than a year from now probably). Will that cause my teeth to spread out?

Tooth pulled out, would other teeth spread out?
Not with the wisdom teeth because the teeth tend to move forward in the mouth, but with #5, the space will be closed becasue the teeth will move towards it from behind. The opposing tooth below will also super-erupt (or raise) into the space.
Reply:Now isnt that something you should have asked your Dentist today?
Reply:I believe teeth do spread out if teeth are missing, but I also think there are things that can be done about, so ask your dentist.
Reply:Yes the teeth will shift in no 5 area don't worry bout this in wisdom tooth area. Need a bridge!! Doc W

Teeth whitening and white fillings?

I have horrible teeth because I used to be bulimic and I smoke and drink coffee alot.

I'm going to quit smoking and I wouldn't mind giving up the coffee, I have recovered from bulimia so getting my teeth whitened seems like a great motivation to be healthier (no smoking) and to just feel better about my smile.

my dentist told me they first whitten your teeth, then wait two weeks and then replace all the white filings.

I have a lot of white fillings! seriously ALOT! so I am a bit embarrased to wait two weeks to get them changed.

I would like to know if those white fillings become extremely visible after getting your teeth whitened?

I don't know if I would like to stay two weeks with all those fillings so obvious. Its embarrasing, its humilliating and its a constant reminder of how much I damaged my teeth in the past.

Thats the only reason thats holding me back with this procedure. Any advice is appreciated and welcome! :)

Teeth whitening and white fillings?
Whoa! I really don't like the sound of that plan. I think maybe you need to look for a dentist that does a lot of cosmetic work. It might be better for you to get veneer crowns (sort of a shell that fits over the front of your tooth) I am not real hot on taking out fillings to match teeth that have been bleached. Bleaching is not a permanent solution. In answer to your actual question, tho. Yes, the white fillings will probably be considerably darker than your natural teeth after they are bleached. The bleaching doesn't do anything to the filling material, so it will stay the same. Normally, if you have a lot of fillings or crowns on your front teeth, I would say you are not even a good candidate for bleaching. I would for sure get a second opinion because you are talking some major money here between the bleaching and replacing a bunch of fillings.
Reply:I have both whitened my teeth and have 'white' fillings. But they are not actually white, they are more like clear and look just like your teeth but a littler yellower so I wouldnt worry about it. Mine are in my back teeth though so I don't have to worry about them, and I assume yours are in the front where others would see?? Either way, like I said they are not white.

i dont know whats causing this. can any of you help or tell me if this had happened to you?

when i went to the denstist, the lines werent there and he told me not to smoke or drink too much tea or coffee. i also notice that they dirty pretty easily, every time after i eat something :/

So, apparently, your dentist thought that you WERE smoking or drinking too much coffee. Did you tell him you weren't? Did you tell him about your bleeding gums? If you make him aware of these things, he may be able to find another cause of the problem.

What is wrong with my teeth??

I had great teeth for the longest time, always got compliments - esp. after I got my braces off yearsss ago. I'm now 20 and my front tooth randomly chipped a few months ago which is minorly to everyone else but a huge chip to me.. then I noticed the front tooth next to it starting to get rugged on the bottom.. (not straight, more like a mountain on the bottom of the tooth..less of a chip and more of a wearing away i suppose) then i reliezed recently that this is affecting the teeth directly underneath ..kind of like a puzzle piece..the roughness from the top teeth is digging into the bottom teeth

i'm really upset because i had great teeth and a great smile and i'm ALWAYS laughing/smiling and i don't have health insurance

what can i do? what could have caused this? could it have possibly been whitening my teeth in the past?

What is wrong with my teeth??
i have 2 theories: first, teeth do have a natural tendency to move over time- especially the front teeth. front teeth are small to begin with and are also sitting in a very thin part of the jawbone. these two factors allow the teeth to shift some throughout our lifetimes. the slightest shift in your teeth obviously changes the way your teeth meet together when you bite and chew. you may be wearing down your teeth differently now than you did in the past because of some movement. or, my second theory is that you may have developed a tendency- or habit - of clenching or grinding your teeth. it's common for people to do while sleeping. this can also cause your teeth to wear and/or chip. save up some money and have your bite evaluated by a dentist. if you are concerned about keeping your smile looking good, you should prioritize seeing your dentist at some point -with or without insurance. prevention is the best way to keep your teeth healthy! best wishes!
Reply:It is really hard to make an accurate diagnosis from what your saying, it could be you grind your teeth at night which caused the chip I know i chipped off my canine by grinding(which is involuntary) So i had to get a night guard to keep my teeth seperated. That may or may not be your case.

Or if could be your *bite* has gotten of track, so your teeth dont settle where they should. I have heard whitening damages your teeth, there are many things that are harmful to teeth. Coffee and soda are good examples. I would see a dentist about getting a line of credit, then you can make payments. That is if you dont have the money up front to pay, i know dentists are expensive.

If your credit isnt good enough to get approved try getting a co signer. Dont be Vain, just remember by the time your old those teeth wont look so good. unless you have thousands of dollars to put into your teeth. I hope i have been helpful
Reply:I agree with the above statement. I also started grinding my teeth at night when sleeping. I didn't get a mouth guard though i stop after a couple weeks but the damage has been done. The dentist recommended more calcium in the diet because i really don't drink milk or eat cheese like that. Everybody is different so the dentist is the best to ask.

Teeth as crooked as grave stones...Cost for braces?

Okay, that "teeth as crooked as grave stones" was a little exaggerated. But here's the scoop: I wore braces before. And I got them taken off five years ago. Like a stupid child, I didn't think I needed to wear my retainer. So, now, five years later, my teeth are crooked again. I know this answer is difficult to answer w/out a picture, but about how much (rough estimate) might it cost for me to get braces now? When I started, it cost $4,000. My teeth aren't as crooked as they used to be. My two front teeth stick out a bit, and I have an overbite. My bottom teeth are square-shaped. I_I

Teeth as crooked as grave stones...Cost for braces?
Well...they are about $4000-5000. You could see an orthodontist and see about getting a correcting retainer. My brother had crooked teeth and wore one instead of braces. They are immensly cheaper and since youve worn braces before they are probably not in too bad of shape. The doc just adjusts the retainer every month or so to get the teeth back in correct form. Good Luck!!
Reply:well even if your teeth are just slightly crooked, theyre gonna cost just as much as if you have teeth as crooked as grave stones; its the other applainces that will make it cost more if your teeth are that crooked. but other than that braces cost around $3000 with good insurance.

good luck!
Reply:Anywhere from $1700 to $5000 depending on what dentists you use.
Reply:on average it's about $3200+ depending on if its metal or ceramic.

Teeth whitening???

My teeth are stained and they are yellow. I am currently using a teeth whitening toothpaste called Colgate whitening with micro buffers to polish the teeth. How long will it take to see results and what elses can I do to have white teeth? I dont wan't to use any teeth whiteners/gels thingies, though. All answers will be greatfully appreaciated. Thanx! xx

Teeth whitening???
Teeth contain pigment just like your skin and hair. How much pigment your teeth have determines how dark they are.

There are TWO kinds of stain:

1) INTRINSIC, means the stain is actually IN the enamel and dentin and requires a BLEACH to lighten it. Common sources are our own natural pigment, certain pharmaceuticals like iron supplements and tetracycline, long-term use of tobacco products.

2) EXTRINSIC, means the stain is only on the surface of the enamel and can be removed with a good toothpaste or dental cleaning. Common sources are plaque, tartar, tea, coffee, red wine, cola products and tobacco.

So you see, if your stain is INTRINSIC, you will require a bleach. To determine what kind of stain you have, see your hygienist.

If you try to remove intrinsic stain with a cleanser or brushing harder, you will only succeed in wearing your teeth out. On the same note, you cannot bleach extrinsic stain! It requires a cleanser.

To provide the very best care for your teeth, consult with your hygienist. You could be spared a lot of grief if all you need is a good professional dental cleaning. Have her teach you how to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy all of the time.

Braces, upper canine teeth?

Hey,

My canine teeth on the top of my mouth are

shorter and higher up than the rest of my teeth.

My mom says they probably won't grow down anymore, she's a dental hygeinest.

I want braces, because

one) i want my teeth to look straighter and more adult

two) i want my canine teeth to come down and inline with the rest of my teeth

my mom says they might not even grown down with braces, but she's not an orthodontist

But she also doesn't want to pay for them

because we're kind of short on money right now

My dentist said that it would be "ideal" to see and orthodontist or to get braces "if we had the money"

(he's my mom's boss, oh guess what, no dental plan...)

So i was wondering if anyone knows if braces will help me?

(oh by the way, i'm almost 15 and i lost my last baby tooth when i was 12, if that makes a difference with my teeth)

Braces, upper canine teeth?
i don't see why your teeth wouldn't come down with braces, braces do miraculous things.

I had hid canines like yours and they came down with braces within a week or 2.
Reply:my canines came down with braces. you could barely see them before braces, and within about a month, they started really moving. Braces do amazing things!!
Reply:One of my upper canine teeth was up high and out of line with my other teeth. If you have something like that, braces will definitely help (just got mine fixed). But if your canines are already in line with your other teeth, braces will not. I think a cosmetic dentist can do bonding or something like that to make your teeth look longer.

I couldn't get braces when I was a teenager either b/c of money reasons, but when I grew up I got a good job with good ortho benefits and am in braces now at 33 years old. So it's never too late. : ) Just keep them healthy and when you're grown you can get them fixed.
Reply:Most cosmetic dentists and orthos will likely give you a "free consultation" and you would be able to find out the costs of fixing your canine teeth.

Most offices also have financing available, even for braces!

Orthodontics vs. False Teeth Plates?

I have unattractive teeth ~ the initial problem was a very severe overjet, overcrowding, as well as a small mouth %26amp; receding jaw.

When I was 15 years old I got my braces, unfortunately all 4 wisdom teeth grew in year later and wrecked everything.

The results are not as severe, but still highly noticable to myself and others now I am 33 years old, to the extent that friends say, "You have such a nice smile, why don't you get your teeth fixed up?"

I am still so self-conscious about my teeth. I have private med for dental now, although on a very small income. I am basically happy with myself overall, except for my teeth and jawline.

Why is orthodontics preferred more so than getting all the teeth out and getting a false teeth plate instead? I know personal comfort would be a big consideration, but are there any other dental factors involved?

What is the approx cost of each of these options in comparision to each other?

Genuine information and advice appreciated.

Orthodontics vs. False Teeth Plates?
If you are 33 and self conscious to the point of considering these 2 options - go to the orthodontist. You shouldn't have dentures unless it is absolutely necessary. Reasons why? First, dentures don't allow you to enjoy food or eat as well. If you gain or lose weight they won't fit well. They almost never look like real teeth and will need to be replaced every so often which will cost you considerably. Many people can't tolerate a lower denture since it gets in the way of your tongue, etc, etc, etc. With the orthodontics the cost may or may not be covered by insurance but so many offices have payment plans. I am guessing $4000.00 or less, but honestly I couldn't say. An orthodontist may be willing to do a free consultation. Maybe you could cut back somewhere, like a coffee a day at the drive thru habit to pay for them. More and more adults are having orthodontics so you are not alone. I had a patient who was 65 when he had his. You will have to do more from a day to day cleaning routine, but I really feel that if you were my family member I wouldn't let you do otherwise. GOOD LUCK

JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
Reply:Although it may seem like more of an expense to get orthodontics, extracting 32 teeth and paying for a full upper and lower denture is probably just as much costly, if not more, than orthodontics. I cannot tell you exact figures, but I'm guessing you'll pay $150-$200 per tooth for an extraction, plus at least $1000 for dentures that don't look like your natural teeth. If it were me, I would go for the braces. Tons of people get orthodontics when they are older, plus they will be off in about 2 years or so. Also, false teeth are a prosthetic. So imagine having 2 wooden legs... they still function OK but are never the same as your original legs. Same goes for your teeth. (i hope i didn't lose you on that analogy.) Good luck!

Teeth question.?

Hello everyone! My brother never brushes his teeth. the last time was like a month ago...Yeah i know SICK! No one really knows about it except for me. But, his teeth are perfect! he is 15, he stopped brushing like at 12. he might brush his teeth 2-3 times a month. He went to the dentist yesterday. he said his teeth were perefect. Not 1 Cavatie...No chips...No puffy gums. Nothing. He has been taking Floride all the way up to 12 years old. How is his teeth so perfect???

Teeth question.?
some people just have naturally strong teeth.. but r u absolutly sure he doesnt brush?
Reply:He just lucked out in the genes department I guess, but it may catch up with him in time.
Reply:there are infections on the inside, trust, me, theyre gonnna start to fall out real soon, brushin is real important, flossin isnt, but brushin isss, hes gon get toogh aches soon, and a dentist wudnt say his teeth are perfect, cuz really, teeth cant be perfect, there hasnt been one person wit a perfect alignment!!! many dentists ive known said i have perfect teeth, i brush twice a day, and one dentist, whos 65 made a model of my mouth to show many people what a perfect set of teeth look like, but i still had a few bad alignments, im not bein arrogant, but just sayin, teeth cant be perfect, its gon hurt him later, 2 mins outta the day wont be as bad as what hell have to face when he gets older!!! and another thing, if his gf or w/e finds out he doesnt brush....i highly doubt shell eva kiss him, u dont want to be the starring actor for 40 year old virgin part 2 now do you?

Teeth Shifting Post-Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Is it possible or normal for teeth to shift after having all 4 wisdom teeth removed? My extraction was about 3 weeks ago, and went very smooth. I am now experiencing moderate pain in 2-3 of my top teeth, including a K9, similar to the pain that I experienced while I had braces. Could this somehow be the teeth correcting previous crowding?

Teeth Shifting Post-Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
..NO THIS IS ACTUALLY PAIN FROM THE WISI EXTRACTION, TEETH WILL SHIFT A BIT AFTER WISI EXTR BUT IT WILL NOT BE PAINFULL.

Teeth pulling method?

I have 3 teeth that need to be pulled 2 are top molars with adult teeth growing over them and the other one is on the bottom with a tooth growing over it. Which method is better when getting your teeth pulled. Gettin put to sleep or the shot in the mouth. I dont care about afterward pain I care about when they give me they painful shot and pull out the tooth. I want to be put to sleep but my mom says I will feel it all. Your opinion?

Teeth pulling method?
Dear snaggletooth,

You mother really does not know what she is talking about. If you are asleep, how do you feel it? Do you think they use novacaine for open heart surgery or what? Good luck with oyur nasty choppers.
Reply:if you are a srilankan ,or wut ever !! Dont pul out your teeth coz i have many experience on this matter ,counsult a dentist, and ask him wut to do ,my sis had this similar prob ,they put her a braces..

take care
Reply:you take a tissue, and hold on it with your hand then you just take you have with the tissue on it put it on your teeth and pull as hard as you could.
Reply:a lot of the time you will not have a choice- if it is not a mojor deal for the dentist to pull them they ill not put you to sleep- if it will be a process, like the pulling of my wisdom teeth- they put you to sleep. If you do have a choice- I highly recommend oyu letting them knock you out. You may have some pain afterwards that can be controlled with pain meds but during the process you will not feel a thing and you wont remember a thing, get put to sleep!!
Reply:It will be up to the dentist or oral surgeon who does the teeth removing. Maybe the person who does this has a headset you could listen to. Or, for that matter, if you have your own, please bring it with you. You will need to ask the person if it's ok to wear it while having the work done tho, out of respect for the person. Don't play it too loud either. Just enough for you to hear. If you get konked out, they would probably have to put an IV needle with IV in your arm, for the procedure. Just the shot, they usually have a pre-shot gel they can put on the cheek where the shot will be placed. To help numb that area for the shot. Then you will be numb. If you can't use a headset, then please do what my dad told me to do when I had to go to the dentist. Close your eyes, think on other things. You will be okay. Take care.
Reply:Being put asleep you will feel nothing, hear nothing, know nothing. Your mother is very wrong.
Reply:shots arent painful

it just feels like a small pinch

ive had a tooth pulled and well, i didnt hav an option to get put to sleep...

i would rather get put to sleep, but dont worry.

the shot does not hurt as much as u think.

and plush that shot numbs ur mouth so much that u cant feel a thing at all!
Reply:having the dentist put a shot in the back in your jaw joint and ask for a little gas to make you relax. Have your mom drive you though because you shouldn't drive yourself afterwards.

Good luck!
Reply:It depends on your level of anxiety - if you just get numbed around the area then you will be awake for the procedure but just feel some pushing when they are taking the teeth out

If you get put to sleep whether it is sedation of general anaesthesia (hospital) you will not feel or remember anything for that matter and this is the least traumatising way to go. Even if you do get put to sleep they still numb the area so you mother is wrong in that regard and you won't feel a thing
Reply:I'm pretty sure that the doctor will numb you up even if you are put to sleep. I work at a dentist office and I have had my wisdom teeth pulled. I was put to sleep to have my teeth pulled and they still gave me shots. I haven't ever seen a dentist pull teeth without numbing it up.

Teeth decay at top of teeth.?

I would like to know what can a dentist do about decay in the top of your teeth. And what could be the cause of you waking up brushing your teeth one morning and the top of you front teeth crumbles, leaving two ugly wholes in the top of your teeth that have began to look like they are decaying? What can the dentist do about this also?

Teeth decay at top of teeth.?
I'm assuming that by the top you mean at the gum line. This area can be restored with a white composite resin or glass ionomer filling. Since its not directly on a chewing surface the chances that you will sheer it off is minimal. By it being in the front at the"top" of the tooth they you're likely to check it out now and then, so if it begins to fail %26amp; seperate at the margin you can go back and get it replaced quickly.

This is pretty common you'll be fine.

I'm thinking fillings or crowns will be your best bet. Call your dentist %26amp; make an appointment to get them looked at. Good luck!
Reply:they can be filled with white filling. do you drink alot of soda? this will definetly cause tooth decay at the gum line.

What to do about uneven teeth?

When I was younger I had buck teeth. As I aged, the gap between my two front teeth closed and my teeth are all nicely aligned. However, my two front teeth are longer than my other upper teeth. It's very obvious and noticable. Kind of resembles beaver teeth. I've heard about filing the teeth down. I wondered if that causes any tooth sensitivity or any problems to the teeth? Any other details would be helpful too.

What to do about uneven teeth?
Some of these comments are quite halarious.. If your teeth are aligned as you say.. Braces, arent your answer! Your teeth are already aligned, thats the whole purpose of braces. So, ignore their answers, their clueless!!

Now, YES you can have them filed down. BUT.. depending on how much needs to be filed if sensitivity will occur. A doctor will only file so much. If there is a major lot of tooth structure that needs to be filed, he will stop at a certain point. If they still look to obvious to you and your not happy at this point. Your best option would be to have them crowned or veneered! This way, they can shave the tooth completely down, and the lab can make you teeth to your liking.

Hope this helps! Go see your local dentist, he'll give you your best options for YOUR specific case.

Reply:I have a friend who had her two front teeth filed down. You would not beleive how great she looks since the procedure. As far as sensitivity, I have never heard her complain. Getting her front teeth fixed has done wonders for self-esteem. Good Luck!!
Reply:if you go to the dentist and ask them they can file them down. i had an chipped tooth in the front and they filed it to be even with the other teeth
Reply:The best thing to do is go to the dentist and ask what they can do .
Reply:Instead of doing this which is bad for the enamel, you can have the surrounding teeth capped with veneers. This would even them up and not take away from your natural teeth. My best friend had this done before her wedding and she is very happy with the results. It is not cheap but looks great and can be done in about an hour.
Reply:get braces DUH!
Reply:The dentist can make the long once a bit shorter and the short once a bit longer. They know their limits.Just find a good cosmetic dentist and ask to see his work if you are too nervous about your front teeth.
Reply:Often teeth can be filed down...but only to a certain point. You can file them down as long as you stay within the outer enamel layer. If a lot needs to be taken off, them other types of procedures may need to be done. One option is to add bonding to the edges of some of the other teeth to make them appear longer while at the same time filing down the two front ones. Another option is veneering them, either just the front 2 or more depending on color and how much length decrepency there is. Veneering them or crowning them will allow you to remove more tooth structure without making them sensitive. If it was my mouth, I would try the most conservative option (bonding and enamel recontouring); however, without being familiar with your case I can't give you a definate answer. Yes it is possible to get sensitive with filing them down, but usually this will only happen if you file past that enamel layer!

Teeth decay?

i was eating carrot cake and suddenly i thought i chewed on something hard like stone, only to realise that it is actually part of my teeth, the one beside the wisdom tooth. now left half a tooth only! how? before this part of my teeth came off, i was having pain like sensitive teeth, now i dont feel the pain anymore? what does it mean? anyone knows?

Teeth decay?
Decay (cavities) don't always hurt and for that reason you don't always know that you have one. You could have had decay or you may have just had a fracture of the tooth that eventually caused the breakage. I have had patients tell me that they had a "sensitive" tooth that when looked at with an xray shows no problem only to later have the tooth fracture which brings relief. Either way I would recommend having a dentist evaluate it to determine the cause and restore it if needed.

Hope that helps!

Teeth Problem!!!!?

I have had crooked teeth all my life but now I am wanting to model and my teeth are ruining my life because I don't want people to see my messed up teeth... I looked into veneers but they are waaay to expensive then I seen a commercial for dentures.. that are a resonable price and I know this is weird but... I want to know if I can still keep my REAL teeth and get dentures to pop in when I'm at a photo shoot or in public or something! atleast until I can afford to get the veneers! PLEASE HELP MY TEETH ARE RUINING MY LIFE!

Teeth Problem!!!!?
what about braces or invisalign? It's not cheap, but your teeth are worth the investment, especially if it helps you get modeling jobs :) I think talking to a professional about your options is the best thing to do. Good luck!
Reply:Talk to a dentist, they have something called "Luminers" That are faboulus.
Reply:consult a dentist and find the best of it. its very easy to make it well
Reply:Depending on the severity of your own teeth, usually the prop departments of movie sets have stuff like that that can fit over your own teeth.or just get them fixed and then go into modeling.

how old are you to be worrying about your looks like this. you said you still have baby teeth, you're still growing. you'll be fine

Reply:just be your self!!!!no one should care what you look like because its what inside that counts!!!!!!mabey there is a guy who likes you so if you change the way you look he may not like you!!!!!!just be your self and stand up for yourself!!!looks dont matter!!!!!!!!!if anyone thinks you look ugly, just say:im ugly and im proud!!!!they will hate it when you dont get upset when they say that!!!trust me it works!!!!!
Reply:Be glad you didn't need a costume for haloween,Howdy Doody.
Reply:Ask your dentist what they think about your teeth and what they can do for you. It sounds like your teeth aren't done growing in yet so don't worry about them yet. For your hair try cute accessories or maybe if you don't like the color you can try dying it. Don't worry your hair will grow out soon. Don't worry about getting a tan yet, you should try some of the tanning stuff in a bottle but make sure it doesn't turn your skin too dark or orange. You can also try dark cover up to make your skin look darker but make sure to rub it in.

What do my teeth hurt from white fillings put in 2 months ago?

I'm in my 30's and 2 months ago had two white filling done. They both replaced existing fillings. For the last 6 weeks everything has been fine but now from time to time (not constant) I start to feel pain in those teeth - the two teeth have also become over-sensitive to cold ... both teeth are about three from the back (inc wisdom teeth). The pain isn't constant though - can be fine for several days and then all of a sudden it starts to hurt and become sensitive. Is it possible there could be some kind of bacteria that got in at the time of seeing the dentist and is inside the tooth now eating away at the inner core of my two teeth? The pain feels deep inside the tooth.

Any suggestions? The dentist was one I saw on holiday in India and used 2 years ago with great success but now I'm back in the UK. The white filling feels different to the white fillings I've had done in the UK. It feels very much like a silver filling - very hard and dense. The gums all look fine, no redness or bleed

What do my teeth hurt from white fillings put in 2 months ago?
I had that happen in 2004, and it turns out that the first dentist drilled very deeply into the cavity and when it was filled it left my tooth hyper-sensitive. I tried to live with it, but then the root became infected and I ended up needing a root canal. My new dentist told me that some cavities are so deep that a root canal should just be done because of the pain factor.
Reply:Oh my gosh, I'm having the same problem. Though I don't know if my filling is 'white', but I had a filling replaced about two weeks ago and last Monday night I started feeling pain. I've been to the dentist twice over this and he has done absolutely nothing. This is the reason I'm on the 'dental' subject, trying to see if people has similar problems. If you find out what the problem is, let me know!
Reply:I had one of those old Silver fillings, it recently cracked and my tooth got infected. This pain went on for months, and the infection spread throughout my body. Took me ages to get the tooth pulled, tons and tons of antibiotics didn't help.

I would suggest having the tooth or teeth pulled.

I found out the hard way that messing around with your teeth is a no-go.

At the very least, wash out with warm salt water from time to time.
Reply:Maybe, the cavity is too deep that's why you're feeling some pain. The problem sometimes of having to replaced an old filling with a new one, when dentists remove it,and drill it inside,we sometimes find out that there's still existing carious lesion(cavity)inside that wasn't removed. One of the reasons why you have been feeling the pain.I am presuming that your dentist have told you about the extent of the cavity and so forth, that you would have to observe the tooth,in case there'd be pain.If it's deep and there's pain, might need a root canal treatment.

Or,another reason, its possible that there's leak on the new filling(very small, that is) that's why you're feeling pain and sensitive.

Or,there might be the tooth may have abrasions near the gum,due to wrong brushing technique causing it to be sensitive.

Sometimes, also, the white fillings are sensitive to teeth to some patients as compared to the silver fillings.Well, this is because it is one of the characteristics of the filling material(the tooth colored fillings/white fillings)

Was it really a white filling that was put onto you?a combination of both white and silver, there is such a thing, though. You should've ask the dentist beforehand, what was it that was placed onto you.

I haven't seen the case,so these are just my insights.
Reply:It may be that the dentist cracked your tooth when he drilled to make room for the filling, He would have known that and didnt tell you, because if he had told you, the only recourse you have is to have the tooth extracted. So he shut up about it, because if the crack was hairline in size, it wouldnt start hurting you immediately, but would await your use of the tooth in chewing to worsen the crack - like cracks do get worse if pressures are put upon them. So you were the victim of dental fraud - a cover up so that the dentist wouldnt get sued. Get his records and x rays and go to a lawyer who specializes in malpractice cases. When you ask the dentist for the x rays and records, tell him you need it for a medical-dental insurance reimbursement. Dont say you are going to another dentist or to an attorney
Reply:maybe they are strong
Reply:in simple terms. you might be grinding your teeth at night

Teeth cleaning???

when i go get my teeth cleaned my teeth has one of those "nails on chalkboard" feeling when they scrape on my teeth... im guessing my teeth are sensitive because the feeling of them scraping on my teeth is like the nails feeling on the chalkboard... it is cold, metallly, and gives me a lil shock... it is hard to explain it but how can i overceom this?

Teeth cleaning???
Are you sensitive near the gum line? If so, you may have some slight recession. Although, I'm surprised they never mentioned that at the dental office. Does it bother you when they use air on you, or when they clean your teeth with the hydrosonic (water under pressure)?

You may be sensitive to the vibration, enamel does not contain nerves, but gets its feeling through vibration.

Hope I helped, good luck!!

Broken milk teeth?

When my son was two, he slipped on a tiled floor while running and broke four of his front teeth. It wasn't a particularly bad fall, but it led to quite a serious injury, leading me to beleive that his teeth were weak in the first place. One of his teeth was already quite weak (it had developed radiating cracks in the week before) but the others appeared quite healthy. His cousin (who is four months older than he is) also has the same problem - he fell and broke the same four front teeth as well.

Do you think this is a genetic weakness in those teeth or is it a result of a nutritional deficiency, decay etc.? Do you think his new regular set of teeth will come out normally or have the same weakness.

I took him to the dentist but he couldn't give me any additional information - suggested we take the wait and see approach.

Has anyone had a similar experience with their child's teeth?

Broken milk teeth?
When your son initially broke his teeth the dentist should have done x-rays to make sure the root wasn't damaged. Unfortunately, you will now have to take the "wait and see" approach. If the teeth aren't discolored I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be any damage for the adult teeth. Have you considered taking him to a pediatric dentist? It might be a good idea, even if it's only for a second opinion. Good luck!

Is it healthy for my teeth to be this bad?

Last time I went to the dentist would off been like 10 years ago %26gt;%26gt;

I have an over bite of about an inch

And I still have 5 baby teeth (There all in the front and I'm 17)

When my adult teeth grew in instead of pushing out my baby teeth, the adult teeth grew behind them so my baby teeth slid down my gums.

So I have 2 marks inside my botom lip from them rubbing.

My baby teeth wont come out no matter how hard I've yanked and wiggled them. They've bleed, but are stuck between 3 other adult teeth (all 5 baby teeth are like this).

How they'd pull them out I have no idea.

My mouth dosn't close. and I can't eat food that's very stringy or extremly tough. I still have my wisdom teeth (there fully in)

So my mouth is extremly compacted (and painfull).

How urgent do I need to get braces and have these teeth pulled?

Is it healthy for my teeth to be this bad?
asap
Reply:I would seriously advise seeing a dentist as soon as possible.
Reply:This isn't healthy and you should see a dentist if you can.

You'd probably need to get your baby teeth pulled, and a lot of major dental work.
Reply:You need to get to an orthodontist, periodontist, and a dentist sooner rather than later. All of that is going to be expensive and painful to fix. Surgery, braces, cleaning... why would you let your teeth get that bad?
Reply:my dad is a dentist,

he says that u NEED them pulled ASAP and might have gum damage do 2 not getting regular cheack ups (kinda like gettong shots)

get ready for braces...they will hurt but in the end u will be so much happier!

So, go 2morrow!!!!!!

Call ur dentist NOW
Reply:Well, I think the longer you wait the worse it could get. I'm sure with those baby teeth there, you can't clean the other teeth as well as they need to be. You should go to the dentist as soon as possible. They have ways of getting the baby teeth out. From what I can tell, It's nothing that can't be fixed, as long as the teeth are healthy. I'm not sure they can be healthy with the living conditions the teeth have, but only a dentist will be able to tell you.
Reply:You need to see a dentist NOW.
Reply:I think the most important thing is to get those teeth pulled. Get a cleaning and X-rays to see what you've got going on. Don't even worry about braces yet if you can't afford them.

Aren't you on your parents insurance? I think you worry about your teeth and gum health before you worry about aligning your teeth so they're nice and pretty. If you can't close your mouth with those in, you've got to get rid of them.

And then maybe you get a job where you get dental insurance and get the braces, or start saving money for the orthodontic work.
Reply:Like staight away it`s harder to move teeth the older you get
Reply:you need to take serious control over this issue. take out a loan or something this is serious and could really effect your health!

Im saying w/i the next month.
Reply:Yes. You really need to fix this! Try care credit.

carecredit.com

It's like a credit card, and you have to qualify to get it, but it lets you make monthly payments. Most Dentists have care credit. You'll need to have the baby teeth removed and possible gum surgery. They might want you to do veneers, but that is hainously expensive. Try and go with crowns, there expensive but not as expensive as veneers. Or you can try extractions of your baby teeth and then get braces. Good Luck!
