my dentist tells me that i have small teeth which has created a gap between my two front teeth, the gap has caused the teeth next to it to turn and plus one of the front teeth has been pushed back on an angle. he says the only way to fix it is by turning the teeth next to it and pushing all my other teeth forward. however since my canine teeth are in the right place it would cause problems apparently and he would have to shave them down. making my teeth look even smaller. he also wants to x-ray my head because he thinks my jaw will grow. he says i would have to wear the braces for six to eight months. is this a good estimate? my friend thinks my dentist is making it more complicated than it is and is only trying to get money out of me. is this true? are there any other methods possible to fix my teeth problem?
How can i fix my teeth? is my dentist lying to me?
First of all, dentists have caused so many health problems in this country that it is just incredible. Any time you do work on a tooth, you cause it to have trauma. The trauma is cummulative and after about 3 or 4 traumas, the tooth can die. The easiest way to solve the gap problem is to get some bonding done. This is easy and does not require a lot of trauma to the teeth. When you use braces, this is not a permanent fix. The teeth have grown that way for a reason. When you straighten them, it works for several years, but the teeth will still tend to go back to their original placement over time.
x-raying your head? For what? Any radiation is cummulative also. Is he proposing to use the new digital x-ray or the conventional x-ray that is 10 times more exposure.
Ask your dentist if he believes amalgam fillings are O.K. to put in people's mouths and does he do that procedure? Then ask him if he knows how to read an x-ray to determine if NICO exists in the mouth or does he have to physically examine the mouth to determine that?
If the answer to the first question is Yes and the answer to the second question is he can't see NICO in an x-ray, like most dentists can't, you need a new dentist.
The only dentist I let touch my mouth now is a "biological dentist" that uses the right materials and procedures to protect my body of all the damage typical dentists are causing people. Many diseases and serious problems are caused from infections that lie under ALL amalgam fillings and cavitations under root canals done using the standard latex type filling materials used in root canals.
Be VERY cautious about who you let work on your teeth in America. The ADA does not look out for you and are controlling dentists in very negative ways.
good luck
Reply:Get a second opinion
Reply:Try going to a different dentist and see what he says.
Reply:cant you just get braises?
Reply:same problem dude...i got the exact same thing...except my jaw won't grow anymore...and i have to get it stretched...but other wise i have to get braces for 2-3 years...u should go to a diff. dentist and see what he says and if he seems more accurate and correct and reasonable....then maybe its time for a new dentist...
Reply:seems like you can just get veneers. go to a dentist that does restorative work. and they usually have free consultation. good luck!
Reply:Um I'm sorry to say but I really don't think your doctor is the sharpest knife in the drawer. How about going to a new dentist? Get braces? Retainer? Ask a family member?
Remember, looks don't matter. Not everyone had perfect teether=) Stay positive and point out the good things when you look in the mirror!
love, maddiegirl x=)
Reply:It depends how old you are if you're going to grow any more. I would suggest going to another dentist and getting another opinion. Maybe even go to two more. Good luck.
Reply:Nope, your dentist is right you will need braces (in order to make your teeth straight), and I think that is a good time estimate. Also, if you don't believe him you should get a second opinion, from an orthodontist perhaps?!
Reply:I'm 42 years old and I honestly can't understand what the deal is with braces today! As long as you are not totally deformed with your teeth and can talk and eat, leave them as they are. Every one of my kids have been told they need braces. Honestly they are fine! 2 of them have really straight teeth, one has a "small" gap between his front and the other has 1 crooked tooth! Big deal. They eat and talk fine and look good too.
When I was younger, I even remember watching movies with the movie stars even having a crooked tooth or two. Jodie Foster being one of them. It just simply wasn't done as a general rule then like it is now.
And to pay 1500 dollars for one root canal! Get real! "IF" I would pay that kind of money for one tooth, I want a written guarantee that that tooth will be in my head when I die! They won't do it. So yeah, dentists are all about getting all the money they can these days. It's up to you. Think about it.
