I obsess about my teeth and its all I think about?

I didn't brush my teeth alot when I was younger and I'm 17 now and I brush all of the time. I felt a slight movement in of my teeth this summer so I got really worried and I went to the dentist. I had some cavities which he filled but he didn't say anything about loose teeth. The tooth only feels like it moves when i bite down then push it with my tongue and it doesnt move all of the time, and never visibly moves. I get b/c I didnt take care of my teeth in the past i'm so worried abouti. Seriously, I think about losing my teeth 24/7 and I cant even get excited about college b/c i'm worried that i'm gonna lose some teeth. It's really taking over my life, even though none of my teeth are loose. My gums are inflamed, but he said I could fix that by brushing and flossing better. It's not like I have advanced gum disease where you have bone loss, and I havent gotten hurt or anything where my teeth could become loose that way. What can I do???

If your dentist took xrays and you have no bone loss, then everything sounds okay in terms of gum disease. If you really feel nervous about the mobility on that one tooth, you should ask your dentist about checking the occlusion on it (Fancy dental word for the way the teeth come together). A lot of people perceive a tooth as mobile when its actually their finger or tongue that gives. On the other hand, your DDS might adjust the occlusion and make sure its not hitting in an unfavorable way. As for the general worrying...the best way to keep your teeth is check-ups, xrays, etc. Brushing the right way makes more of a difference that brushing 15 times a day. I'd rather see someone who worries about their teeth too much than the majority of people who expect their dentist to work miracles after years of neglect. Seriously though, if you think anxiety is affecting your life...talk to your physician about anti-anxiety medications. More people are on them than you'd think.
Reply:Go to the dentist and if you are a boy which I think u are cause of ur screen name, this is a habit boys have especially if you have a girlfriend it shows that u care about hygiene so that is good and go to the dentist.
Reply:when ANYTHING bothers you to the point you have described you need help to get over this. First go to your medical doctor. If you don't have one ask around for who is a good one. Then ask the doctor for help in managing this obsession. Tell the doctor everything you told us on here. Go for help so you can get your mind on college. You are ina great stage in life. You deserve to enjoy it. Best wishes.
Reply:If the dentist said your ok then your ok besides if you still don't feel good you can get a second opinion from another dentist but its probably just you don't obsess over it so much it may not be that bad at all just take care of them now for the future so that you don't freak again. You will be ok i used to be like that i started taking care of them and now i'm ok.
Reply:just pull out all your teeth now then you don't have to worry about losing them
Reply:Relax...go to the dentist...ask them about it...and have fun at college...if not you will regret it...I can't wait till I graduate...!
