If i get my wisdom teeth removed - will my teeth straighten out?

I had four teeth removed when i was younger, as i have a small jaw. So thanks to that, my teeth ended up pretty straight.

Now my wisdom teeth are coming through.

They are growing unevenly though, the left wisdom tooth is half way through, whereas the right is just starting to appear.. now as a result of that....... my teeth have gone ever so slightly off too the side. Meaning, like...... they look a bit wonky. I can only really notice it in photo's, but it's bugging me. And i don't want it to get worse. And i really do not want a brace.

If i get the wisdom teeth removed - will the teeth straighten back out? Or will a brace be needed?

I would ask the dentist, but i'm a bit of a dentalphobe =/

I don't think what has already occured will straighten out, but having them removed will prevent them from getting even wonkier. Is that a word? :)
Reply:getting them taken out will stop the teeth from moving any more, but afterwords if they havent went back to their original positions your dentist might have you wear an invisiline for a few months
Reply:probably not...if you want them straight you will have to get braces
Reply:ive been told the teeth will continue to grow more cramped and crooked until the wisdom teeth are out. However, this doesnt mean they will straighten out. a "spring retainer" might be a great alternative to braces if they dont straighten out. ask your dentist about it. its less costly
Reply:Typically, no, your teeth will not return to their "natural" position. In most of my patients, once the third molars (wisdom teeth) start to shift things around, there is no shifting back, even after extraction.

But, I do urge you to get your third molars taken care of as soon as possible!! Too many people wait until the last minute and end up with severe impactions and also decaying the teeth in front as well. If you have a fear of dentists, I suggest you make an appointment for a consultation (you will need to contact an oral surgeon, usually) and if you are not comfortable with that particular doctor, then keep moving on until you find someone you're comfortable with. Consultations are free, so it won't cost to shop around.
Reply:asking does not hurt

... but doing does.

You need to see the dentist cause from your description they are not coming in right, but only he/she can tell.

Braces are not that bad. they are a bother, but far less pain than having a tooth removed.
Reply:Get them taken out now before it gets any worse! I had naturally perfectly straight teeth... Then my wisdom teeth came in! After that, my left top and bottom eye teeth tilted sideways. Not so cool. Not super noticeable, unless you're me, and looking for it, but still, not perfect as before. Your best bet is to have them removed before the damage can get worse.

Edit: as for having them removed, I had 2 of mine pulled, not quite so bad, lots of Novocaine, and plenty of nitrous. The other 2, the roots weren't straight, and had to be removed surgically. That was the best, I slept thru the whole thing!
Reply:I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out too about 5 years ago. Like you 2 of them were impacted which was making my bottom teeth get a little crooked. Actually it's just one tooth on the bottom, it bothers me a bit, but it's not really noticeable. But it started getting crooked before and it never straightened back out. I think the only way to reverse the damage would be braces. But, when I was little I had to wear a retainer and it actually helped move me jaw and straighten out some of my teeth! So a retainer wouldn't be as bad as braces, ask your orthodontist about it.
Reply:If you have your wisdom teeth removed, it will allow your misaligned teeth to move back into a better, more straight position.

If they do not shift completely back your dentist will work with you to wear braces just long enough to straighten the teeth correctly.

It will take up to six months for the teeth to shift back after the wisdom teeth removal and your dentist or oral surgeon will check your teeth about every six to eight weeks to check the progress.

Every person is an individual, some people will need the braces and some will not. Good luck, dental health is very important to your overall health, so don't be too much of a dental phobia....

Hope everything works out well for you and have a Merry Christmas.
