Wisdom teeth and pregnancy?

Well, I%26#039;m 21 weeks w/ baby #1 and my wisdom teeth have began coming in rather rapidly. They don%26#039;t hurt or anything, but I had braces and now the wisdom teeth are pushing on my teeth and causeing them to shift, and it may sound pathetic but it scares me, I don%26#039;t want to have crooked teeth again.

My question is, will they be able to remove my wisdom teeth while pregnant? And if they can will they knock me out for it? I absolutely cannot be kept awake for the procedure, I hate the dentist, orthodontist, etc.

Also, if I dont get them removed, and wait until after I have the baby, will my teeth shift back on their own or how would we fix them? This issue is stressing me out. Thanks

Wisdom teeth and pregnancy?
Yes they can take your teeth out during pregnancy. I was actually there yesterday and they want to take all 3 of my wisdom teeth out.

They probably wont knock you out for the procedure since breathing in the sleepy gas may be transferred to the baby, but it is completely safe for them to use local novicaine which will 100% numb the area around your tooth and you wont feel a thing. Local novacaine does not travel to the fetus.

The sooner you get your teeth out, the better chance you have of your teeth realigning themselves and you will not have to worry about crooked teeth.
Reply:I know when they take out wisdom teeth they can do it with a local. That%26#039;s how I had mine done. That you are pregnant though, I%26#039;m not sure they will do any dental work on you that isn%26#039;t absolutely necessary. Talk to your ObGyn and see if she/he will ok the procedure for you. Then of course, you would have to find a dentist that is willing.

Good luck!
Reply:my wisdom teeth decided to come out while i got pregnant as well! but ur lucky cause they hurt soo bad! and just as well they are pushing all my other teeth as well which makes it hurt more. But a i had another tooth of mine break, and i need to have a root canal done, but my dentist will NOT do it, not even pull my tooth out until after i have my baby.
Reply:I was pregnant and just had a miscarriage, but had started having a crown done like the week before i got pregnant... they decided not to finish it until i would be in my second trimester... i also had a tooth they were gonna do a crown on but decided it needed a root canal and crown lengthening so i told them i wanted it to be pulled (it was my back tooth) and they were gonna do that my second trimester... but a wisdom tooth i am not sure about... i think they are worse then even a regular back tooth...
Reply:They can take out your wisdom teeth while you are pregnant, but they cannot knock you out for it. You can only have non-epinephrine novocaine in pregnancy (basically the same as regular novocaine, but it doesn%26#039;t last as long).

If you wait until after your baby is born, your teeth may shift back on their own, but more than likely you would at least need a retainer to gently coax them back. It would depend largely on how much they had shifted.
Reply:If you can tough it out...I really wouldn%26#039;t recommend getting them taken out until after the baby is born. In all actuality, they can do the procedure, and they wouldn%26#039;t knock you out for it. The healing process is so horrible though. I couldn%26#039;t eat anything but Spaghetti-O%26#039;s for a month and a half. I was throwing up, because the pain was so intense...and you wouldn%26#039;t be able to take Ibuprofen for the pain/swelling because you%26#039;re pregnant. I don%26#039;t know if you can take LorTabs or not while pregnant, but that%26#039;s the pain medication they gave me. My cheeks were swollen for the longest time, and I couldn%26#039;t open my mouth all the way. It was so horrible for me, and I wasn%26#039;t pregnant at the time. I can only imagine how horrible it would be while pregnant! Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck!
Reply:My fiance%26#039;s step mom had two of her wisdom teeth taken out two weeks before she delivered. She had one taken out one week and the other the next week. They could not use anesthesia, because she was pregnant. They just numbed her gum. She said she couldn%26#039;t feel anything until later on that evening. Hope this helps!
Reply:no they cant. i had the same problem. i had my removed right after my son was born
