Wisdom Teeth - Repost for more answers?

Hey everyone,

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed about 13 years ago. However, I have been having pain in the back of my mouth wear one of them used to be (upper right). The sensation feels sort of like a tooth cutting the gum. I have felt back there with my finger, and I feel something hard and pointy under the surface. It is not on the top of my mouth like where a wisdom tooth would come in, but on the gummy part next to my back tooth. It almost feels like it is some pointy think sticking out of the back of my tooth towards the back of my throat. Any ideas? Is this enough info?

I know that my wisdom teeth were impacted, so they did have to break them up to remove them. I guess it could be possible that after all of this time a piece has worked its way to the surface.

This sounds like a bit of a bone spicule. This is not uncommon, it is probably not a piece of the tooth itself. I know when my doctors remove a tooth we remove all the the folicle (little sac the tooth develops in), and clean out the socket itself, then flush it out with sterile water. These bone spicules usually work their way out, so you shouldn%26#039;t worry. If you are concerned, return to the person who removed the tooth and have them evaluate the area, this may require an x-ray. I hope this helps.
Reply:Just go back to the dentist for a check up and have them x-ray it for you so you both can see what it is. But also look at the web site to see if they answered your question as well
Reply:panoramic x-ray will show any of the following

remaing roots in wisdom place

pocket distal to molar no 7

distal caries with food which may lead 2 this sencation

good luck
Reply:It%26#039;s probably safe to wait until January, however you%26#039;ll be in a lot of pain. If it hurts now, it may hurt worse. I would see if someone, friend etc, could shine a small flashlight and take a look, it may be as simple as a puncture from food or bone. Also, if you have regular insurance, you may be covered for an %26quot;emergency extraction%26quot;....I%26#039;d check into that too:) Good Luck!
