Looking after your teeth doesnt always pay?

Why is it that some people have really amazing teeth with not a single filling in there head? Usually there the ones who eat loads of sweets and brush once a day an never floss.

My ex has a sweet tooth his 28 year's old and not a single filling he doesnt look after his teeth as I use to basically live with him an see how he treated his teeth. I am 20 year's old and had my first filling just over a year ago, I no have 1 root canal, and 4 fillings I brush my teeth twice a day and use colgate sensitive gentle care mouthwash, I am a little scared of flossing as I feel my fillings will get pulled out.

It's annoying I asked the dentist why I am having such bad teeth an her answer was just brush and floss, Im like but I do. Why do some people have great teeth an others dont?

I've been dentist 3 times since February, it's really starting to get me down an it's very expensive.

Looking after your teeth doesnt always pay?
We all have our share of problems with our teeth. I have a large tooth structure and no cavities, not one filling. But I`ve had braces my jaw broken, and now gum grafting. It`s all about genetics my dear. My neice all of her molars have been filled, she`s only 10, I guess she`s got deep pitted teeth.
Reply:my fiance only brushes his teeth a few times a week because he recons that when he brushes his teeth... he gets abscesses and things! And his teeth are fine!
Reply:Genetics and water quality during the developmental stage of tooth formation are probably the majority of it.

You just can't build a sturdy house on a loose foundation.

I have horrible teeth, and I hate them. But, that doesn't mean I don't do all I can to try and take care of them. I have managed to outlast my mother by 7 years for dentures.. barely. It is a losing battle for some. Others just get lucky. And, there are others that simply don't care about themselves. Bad oral hygiene will catch up with them in time.
Reply:It might just be genes if your family members have bad teeth enamel it might get passed on to you.
Reply:yea i dont really agree with brushing your teeth so much..cos it justs damages them more. try to drink milk and have enough intake of calcium and vitamins to ensure you have strong healthy teeth x
Reply:try a colon cleanse and then a candida yeast cleanse also rinse mouth with hydrogen proxide, it whitens naturally and gets rid of bacteria and infection in your mouth. stay away from metal fillings they are very toxic to your entire body
Reply:When was the last time your husband has seen a dentist. Some people just think they have great teeth because they never see a dentist, so they just don't know about their cavities and gum disease, yet.

Genetics have a lot to do with great teeth, too. And please floss, it will not pull out your fillings unless they have a cavity around it and then it should be replaced anyways.

But now imagine you wouldn't take care of your teeth? You would probably already loose some of your teeth. So keep up the good work. Rinse with fluoride every day. And don't drink anything high in acids like mountain dew or Gatorade or other sports drinks. And stay away from lemon and sour candy. Acid reflux can have a lot to do with your problem, too.
Reply:Your teeth are echoes of family traits and the place where you were born.I produce a lot if saliva which causes a build

up of tartar but I have only three gaps and I'm in my 70's.

Persevere with your way,at least you won't suffer from bad breath.
Reply:It's just luck of the draw , like some people have good skin and others don't. I know dentists are expensive but in the long run it pays to look after your teeth. If you're not happy with your dentist have you considered changing? I do realise that these days that isn't easy. I do know how you feel i look after my teeth seeing dentist and hygienist regularly, and my teeth are great but my gums aren't and so i have had several teeth out. i hate seeing my good teeth taken out because of rotten gums and like you i try really hard on the cleaning/flossing/mouthwashing thing.
Reply:I have no fillings and nothing wrong with my teeth, but I had a brace when I was younger, that's all I needed. My mum was the same, she only started getting fillings %26amp; stuff when she got pregnant [because morning sickness can ruin teeth enamel].. so i'm guessing it's in the Genes. Another thing suggesting it IS in the genes, my dad has lots of fillings %26amp; crowns %26amp; stuff, and my mum never did until she got preggie.. Me %26amp; my big brother have had good teeth [no fillings] so far, and my other little brother has lots of fillings [he's only 11, 9 when he started getting fillings].. hope this helped
Reply:Hi Bonnie,

Perhaps it's not that fact that your boyfriend, or people who eat sweet's teeth are fine, but that they don't go to the dentist to get their teeth checked and therefore that's why they don't have fillings?? I don't look after my teeth greatly, appart from brushing, i am 20 and have no fillings but i haven't been to the dentist in a long time and i know if i did, i would need work done, i guess some people, live with the idea of, i will deal with it when it happens and don't go for their regualt check ups like they should. Some people are just luckier than others where these things are concerned...perhaps drinking a lot of milk has helped my teeth stay stronger, not sure...

don't worry too much. You are doing everything you can!

Best of luck

Reply:I forgot where I put my "teeth" the real ones are almost gone, and I lost the "bought ones" that really sucks cause they are so expensive...and I have a problem keeping up with stuff...and to loose the most expensive and important " stuff" is the pits!!!

I hope you can take good care of your teeth and keep them in your head...
Reply:Life's not fair is it?

Genetics also plays a role in dental decay.
